The
Norm Holloway Solo and Party Competition is an annual solo, duet, and ensemble contest hosted by the Gosford City Brass
Band, exclusive to it's members. Established in 2005, this event is held to acclaim the countless efforts, significant contributions,
and rich history with the band, of retired principal Euphonium player and Life Member, Norm Holloway.
The
aims of this in-house contest are to give all our players the opportunity to perform in front of a receptive, non-judgemental audience;
to encourage
the development of players within the band through solo, duet and ensemble competition; and to provide the opportunity to
perform a solo for those members who normally would not participate in these competitions at a higher level.
It comprises of a combination of Junior and Open Division events throughout the day, along with
a BBQ lunch provided. Depending on entrant numbers and time constraints, there may also be morning and afternoon tea in between
some events.
To encourage the participation of all members regardless of skill level, many events are run
on a handicap system. Competitors are assigned a handicap point score based on playing experience and ability, prior to adjudication.
There are also non-handicap events for the more serious competitors.
